45 Years of Title IX
This year, Title IX, a federal law signed by President Richard Nixon on June 23, 1972, celebrates its 45th anniversary. An amendment to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX consists of 37 words that mandated change in American education by making discrimination based on sex illegal, thereby expanding access and opportunities for the underrepresented sex, which historically has been women.

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

Revenues and Expenses: 2011-2015 — NCAA® DIVISION III INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS PROGRAMS REPORT
This report provides summary information concerning revenues and expenses of NCAA Division III athletics programs for the fiscal years 2011 through 2015. It is the result of data collected in the fall of each of those years. Although similar studies have been conducted for the NCAA since 1969, significant changes in data collection and reporting render previous reports non-comparable to those of 2004 and beyond.
Objectives. The primary objective of the 2015 edition of the report is to update the information provided in previous reports concerning financial aspects of intercollegiate athletics programs. A second objective is to provide an analysis of expense trends of NCAA Division III athletics programs and its two defined subgroups – schools with football and those without. A third objective is to provide data relevant to gender issues.

2015-16 NCAA Sports Sponsorship and Participation Rates Report
The NCAA compiled the following statistical information regarding participation in intercollegiate athletics at its member institutions. This information provides a general view of historical trends in participation and sponsorship by gender, sport and division. Much of this information has been collected in detail since the 1981-82 academic year; however, the added teams, dropped teams and net change data are only available since 1988-89. Statistics from the 1956-57 through the 1981-82 academic years are included, but are only available at five-year intervals and include recreation programs. Therefore, they are not directly comparable to the statistics for the years that followed.
